Beginners Adobe Illustrator Training Course

This one-day introduction to Adobe Illustrator training course teaches the basics of Illustrator for working with vector graphics to produce professional logos, line art, illustrations and artwork.

The course is available for the Cresative Cloud subscription version of Illustrator as well as for legacy desktop versions such as Creative Suite CS5 and CS6, and for Mac or Windows operating systems. This essentials course is an on-site event delivered either at your workplace, or as a live virtual classroom event, for one-to-one sessions and small groups of up to 10 delegates.

During our Adobe Illustrator beginners course you will start to work with Adobe's flagship vector graphic design software and be introduced to drawing tools and techniques, how to create custom shapes with ease and manage selections and layouts. You will also discover how to work with fonts, colours and images, new Generative AI features, and learn how to go about printing your finished work.

The beginners course can be combined with the Advanced Adobe Illustrator training course to create a two-day training programme. Alternatively, you can also blend the training with other Adobe applications, or opt for our five day Creative Cloud Master Class.

What are the Illustrator Beginners Training Course Prerequisites?

No previous knowledge of Adobe Illustrator is required to attend this essentials course. The course is also suitable for those who are self-taught using Illustrator but feel more comfortable starting from scratch with an introductory course, or with a refresher.

Live Virtual Classroom Adobe Illustrator Beginners Training, UK and Beyond

If you have a group of staff that you would prefer to be tutored remotely rather than having a trainer come out to you these small-group Adobe Illustrator courses are also available Online as live virtual, interactive training sessions from the comfort of your own office or workplace. These live instructor-led courses are taught via MS Teams video conferencing.

Why choose virtual learning? As we are all becoming more used to Online learning and live virtual meetings it has become apparent that the virtual classroom method of delivery has many advantages over traditional face-to-face learning venues.

What is the difference between Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite?

Adobe Creative Cloud is Adobe's platform of Cloud-based creative design and desk-top publishing applications and tools (such as PhotoShop, Indesign and Illustrator and so forth) which is licensed as a subscription-based service either for individual CC products, or for the whole of the Creative Cloud suite.

Adobe Creative Suite is Adobe's legacy 'On-Premise' suite of creative design and desk-top publishing applications and tools (such as PhotoShop, Indesign and Illustrator and so forth) which is licensed with a traditional EULA (End User License Agreement) whereby the software is physically installed on your device both for individual Creative Suite products or the whole suite of software applications.

All of our closed course Adobe training programmes can be delivered on either Creative Cloud (CC) or Creative Suite (CS).

Notes: Adobe Illustrator Beginners Terminology in Layman's Terms

1) In computer graphics a bézier curve is a curve which makes use of a mathematical formula to define the control points of the curve (and its scale) to produce a smooth and continual arc.

2) Just about anyone who works in illustration will tell you that the Pathfinder Palette (AKA the Pathfinder Tool) is one of the best and most useful features of Adobe Illustrator. With it you can create custom shapes and paths with a single click. You can morph two or more shapes with combinations of addition, subtraction, exclusions, segmentations, trims, merges and crops giving you an impressive range of flexibility and control over shape manipulation.

3) Spot Swatches in Adobe Illustrator enable you to provide / store additional colour information ("plates") for print where colours beyond the CYMK sprectrum of inks are required.

4) Native Pantone colours were phased out of Adobe Illustrator in late 2022 with just a few remaining (CYMK Coated, CYMK uncoated and Metallic Coated). Wider libraries of Pantone colours are available with a Pantone Connect Extension license. See the Pantone website on the subject here: Pantone Connect X Adobe FAQ.

The Pantone Colour System is a proprietry colour matching system for printing and used for ink colours which cannot be matched with conventional CYMK colours.

5) In typography, tracking and kerning change the distance between letters vertically, whereas leading changes the distance between letters horizontally. Tracking adjusts the space between all letters in a block of text whereas kerning changes the space between two letters at a time. With tracking and kerning, letters with ascending (e.g. h, l, t) or descending (e.g. y, p, q) features are adjusted, thereby changing their relationship with adjacent lines of text.
