Email us or call 0844 493 3699 to find out more about booking Power BI training for your team.

The Microsoft Power BI Advanced training course is a three-day, instructor-led event which will be conducted either on-site at your premises or as a live virtual classroom event via MS Teams. We will provide all courseware and reference materials electronically to use for reference.

Our expert trainers come to you and can deliver this advanced Power BI course at your premises anywhere in mainland UK.

This Power BI course also forms part of our Microsoft 365 Masterclass.

Power BI Advanced Training Course Prerequisites

Before attending this advanced level course for Power BI business intelligence, students should already possess a good degree of Power BI knowledge and understanding at the very least up to the equivalent of our beginners Power BI course.

For those with little or no previous knowledge of Power BI (or those who have previously used only the Online Service version), we usually recommend that you take our comprehensive four-day zero-to-hero Power BI masterclass instead.

On-site Power BI Advanced Training in the United Kingdom

These are corporate in-house training courses conducted at your workplace for small groups and are exceptional value and very popular. You will usually need to book at least one month in advance and the maximum number of learners is eight per course.

Our 'face-to-face' closed courses for Power BI are delivered as private courses for your delegates offering more flexibility than off-the-shelf public courses and topics taught can often be tailored to match your learning needs. One of our trainers will discuss your training requirements with you prior to the course.

Our trainers can attend anywhere in mainland UK (for overseas requirements, please enquire). On rare ocassions travel supplements may apply for Power BI training in Central London to cover additional expenses such as congestion charges, but we will endeavour to waive these when possible.

With our on-site Microsoft Power BI courses our regional trainers come to your workplace throughout mainland UK, bringing the training to you regardless of whether you are in a major city such as London, Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds, or anywhere else. This offers a really cost-effective way to train small groups and entire departments in the comfort of familiar surroundings from the Capital City of London to The Cotswolds, from Hampshire to Northamptonshire, West Midlands to West Yorkshire, Sussex to South Yorkshire, Norfolk to Northumberland, Lancashire to Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire to Gloucestershire, Bristol to Berkshire, Essex to the East Riding and everywhere inbetween.

Live Virtual Classroom Power BI Advanced Courses, United Kingdom and Beyond

If you have a group of staff that you would prefer to be tutored remotely rather than having a trainer come out to you these small-group Power BI courses are also available Online as live virtual, interactive training sessions from the comfort of your own office or workplace. These live, instructor-led virtual courses are taught via Microsoft Teams.

Why choose virtual learning? As we are all becoming more used to Online learning and live virtual meetings it has become apparent that the virtual classroom method of delivery has many advantages over traditional face-to-face learning venues.

If you are looking for local training near you, then you can't get any closer to your doorstep than you can with virtual learning.

The maximum number of learners is eight per course and you can benefit from full and immersive interaction with your trainer just as if they were in the classroom with you, with engaging hands-on training via advanced live video conferencing that is further enhanced by features such as live chat, private chat, and sharing screens and documents.

You can find out more about live virtual classroom Power BI training delivered across Microsoft Teams video conferencing here: Learn More About Virtual Training with MS Teams.

How Many People Should Attend Our Private Power BI Courses?

Whilst the number of people who attend our private Power BI courses is essentially up to you and dependant upon the number of learners you have who need to receive the training, we encourage all of our clients to keep your class sizes small where possible and recommend a maximum of eight learners for technical courses such as Power BI. This provides a more personable and effective learning experience for you and allows the trainer to give more individual attention to each and every student.

What is the Teaching Method for Our Power BI Courses?

The teaching method for our private Power BI courses is Instructor-led training (ILT), which means that our courses are engaging, immersive, hands-on and interactive, and thereby facilitate more effective learning and information retention. With this participatory learning method your staff will retain information better, whether they are studying Power BI subjects in-person or via live virtual classroom. And, whilst we are happy to provide lectures, demonstrations and show-and-tells for larger groups (plus drop-in surgeries for ad hoc technical advice and explanation), the instructor-led training approach is by far the most reliable teaching methodology to bring your Power BI know-how to life in a small-class-size setting.

How Long are our Power BI Courses?

Usual teaching hours for our Power BI courses are 9.30AM to 4.30PM with an hour for lunch and two short breaks morning and afternoon. This timetable is fairly standard across UK training providers and gives six hours of hands-on Power BI learning, which is an optimal day's training when it comes to comfortably absorbing knowledge, undertaking practice exercises and retaining information.

If you need an earlier or later start time for your course please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Courses are delivered week days, Monday to Friday during normal business hours.

Power BI Terminology in Layman's Terms

1) Power BI Slicers provide a means of quickly filtering portions of your data model with the click of a button. In Power BI Slicers provide a really simple way of sculpting your visualisations. The two main types of slicer tools are dropdown slicers and slider slicers.

2) In Power BI, Power Query enables you to "get" (or connect to) data from external data sources and then sculpt and clean (i.e. "transform") that data. Your edited data can then be brought into Power BI to produce pivots, reports and charts. Or, to put it another way, the Power Query Editor is an ETL data integration tool which means that it enables you to Extract external data from multiple sources and then Transform that data before Loading it into a data warehouse (in this instance Power BI) for analysis and reporting.

3) Simply put, DAX measures are what you might refer to as functions and/or formulas in other applications such as Excel. The DAX formula language is more specialised than this suggests though and it provides measures for working with relational data and aggregating data from multiple sources. As a formula language, DAX consists of all the components of a formula including its functions, constants and operators.

4) There are over 250 DAX measures available to use in your DAX formulas in Power BI. For a comprehensive reference list for DAX measures by category see the Microsoft article here: DAX function reference.

5) Power BI Workspaces provide a space for collaboration with your colleagues for working upon dashboards, reports and data models. Workspace members will usually need a Power BI Premium Per User or Power BI Professional license. Fabric Free license holders can't share workspaces but workspaces can be shared with them by Premium and Pro license holders. For external users you can invite them as guest users of the workspace through the Azure portal.

6) Whereas the standard Power BI Gateway is for working in a collaborative environment, a Power BI Personal Gateway can be installed on your own PC or laptop for personal/ individual use in an unshared, closed environment. Note that with a Personal Gateway you can share read-only reports etc., but you cannot collaborate. You can only have a maximum of one Personal Gateway and one on-premise standard gateway running on the same computer at any one time.
